Why Support Local?

img_9112

All too often food that can be grown and consumed locally is transported long distances to consumers that know nothing about its origins. It is quite common to find that food transportation burns more energy than the energy embodied in the food itself.  According to the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture, “It is estimated that the average American meal travels 1500 miles from farm to plate”. Visit CUESA to read more. Transportation often accounts for the majority of the carbon footprint that comes with purchased food.  Purchasing and supporting local farms like Beyond Organic Farm nearly eliminates the environmental and economic costs of food transport.

Beyond Organic is devoted to building a conscientious community in Boulder as well as providing education to students, volunteers, and CSA members alike. By supporting local agriculture you are helping develop a culture of sustainability and environmental accountability. Furthermore, supporting Beyond Organic Farm with your dollar is an investment in the protection of your local waters and soils.  In our farming practices we attempt to preserve our bountiful natural resources and beautiful environment while still providing bountiful harvests of healthy produce.  Farming sustainably helps to ensure the quality of life in our community for generations to come.
